1-Pyridin-2-yl-propan-2-one is a reactive compound that can undergo cross coupling reactions. It reacts with terminal alkynes to form 1,3-dipoles and reactive carbenes. This process is selective for the desired product, providing a high yield of the desired product in the presence of other products. The reaction products are hydrogenated to produce ethyl bromoacetate and cyclohexanol. The ligation of 1-pyridin-2-yl-propan-2-one with pyridinium chloride produces a complex mixture of reaction products.
