CAS 6304-24-1: 2-Isobutylpyridine

2-Isobutylpyridine is a chiral, non-basic, organometallic compound that is used as a diluent and in catalysis. It has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the formation of ion pairs and oxygen atoms, which are important in highlighting substances. 2-Isobutylpyridine has also been shown to have nucleophilic properties. In addition to this function, it can also act as an oxygen atom source when combined with metal halides or Grignard reagents. This chemical also exhibits high reactivity towards tobacco alkaloids and sulfoxides, making it useful for the synthesis of organic compounds such as maltol and nicotine sulfoxide. 2-Isobutylpyridine reacts with bromelain enzyme from pineapple fruit to form a complex intermediate that can be used for the synthesis of various products such as 2-isobutylpyridine derivatives and amino acids.
