CAS:Phenothiazine is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound with the molecular formula C12H8N2. It is a colorless solid that is sparingly soluble in water, but soluble in common organic solvents. Phenothiazine has been found to be a transition metal catalyst for the synthesis of amines from cyanide and amines. The reaction requires no additional reagents, such as acids or bases, and proceeds under mild conditions. This reaction can also be conducted on an industrial scale, making it an economically viable process. Additionally, phenothiazine is able to catalyze the conversion of amines to nitriles using hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant. This reaction occurs in two steps: first, hydrogen peroxide oxidizes the amine to an iminium ion followed by oxidation of the iminium ion to a nitrile. Phenothiazine has been shown to enhance this reaction by increasing the rate at which hydrogen peroxide reacts withFormula:C18H12BrNSPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:354.3 g/mol10-(4-Bromophenyl)phenothiazine (contains 10% 10-(4-Iodophenyl)phenothiazine at maximum)
