Sulfameter
CAS:Sulfameter is a sulfonamide antibiotic that is used to treat urinary tract infections. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including tetracycline-resistant strains. Sulfameter binds to the bacterial enzyme dihydropteroate synthase (DHPS) in order to inhibit bacterial growth by blocking the synthesis of folic acid, which is an essential component of DNA and RNA. This antibiotic also has an anti-inflammatory effect on bowel disease. The linear calibration curve for sulfameter was determined by applying colloidal gold as a tracer in wastewater treatment plants.
