    (R)-3-Amino-1-(3-(trifluoromethyl)-5,6-dihydro-[1,2,4]triazolo[4 ,3-α]pyrazin-7(8H)-yl)-4-(2,4,5-trifluorophenyl)butan-1-one phosphate anhydrous (TZP) is a drug candidate for the treatment of diabetes. TZP is a prodrug that is metabolized by the liver and gut to the active compound sitagliptin phosphate (SGP). TZP has been shown to reduce plasma glucose levels in diabetic rats. In vitro experiments have shown that TZP inhibits dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV), which is an enzyme that degrades incretins such as glucagon like peptide 1 and glucose dependent insulinotropic polypeptide.
