1-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1,3-propanedione is an agriculturally useful absorber that is typically used in nitro and ferrocene production. This water-soluble derivative of oxime derivatives can be easily synthesized from the reaction of 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethanone and 4-chlorophenol. Reaction yields are dependent on the reaction time, with longer reaction times resulting in greater yields. The hydroxyl group reacts readily with organic solvent to yield a residue. Flavonoids, haloalkyls, and other compounds may also be formed during this process.
