It has been shown to bind to the chloride anion, which is found in many biologically important compounds such as nucleotides, amino acids and chlorinated solvents. The functional groups of 4,5-diphenyl-2-oxazolethiol may be involved in the binding process. This compound crystallizes with mononuclear coordination geometry and has a molecular weight of 181.87 g/mol.
