CAS 673-05-2: 2-Pyridineacetic acid, hydrazide

2-Pyridin-2-ylacetohydrazide (2PA) is an opioid that is a potent agonist at the mu opioid receptor. It has been used as a probe to study the binding of opioids to the mu receptor, and has also been shown to have potent activity against gram-negative bacteria. 2PA is structurally related to thiourea, which has been shown in x-ray crystallography studies to bind triazole and form a covalent bond with it. This covalent bond inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. 2PA also binds to the mu opioid receptor with high affinity and efficacy, which may be due to its functional groups that are similar in structure to oxadiazole, another opioid agonist.
