Furin inhibitor II is a small molecule that inhibits the activity of furin, which is an enzyme used in the processing of growth factor-β1. Furin inhibitor II binds to human receptors and blocks their binding to the surface glycoprotein on cancer cells. Furin inhibitor II also has physiological activities, such as reducing inflammation, inhibiting viral replication, and inhibiting the growth of bacteria. Hexa-D-arginine

Hexa-D-arginine amide is a potent furin inhibitor with a Ki of 0.106 μM. It also inhibited the related convertases PACE4 and prohormone convertase-1 (PC1) with Ki values of 0.58 μM and 13 μM, respectively. The stable hexapeptide exhibited protection against anthrax toxemia in vitro and in vivo.
