It has also been shown to inhibit the drug transporter P-glycoprotein, which is involved in the transport of drugs out of cells. Mevalonic acid lactone has also demonstrated an anti-inflammatory effect, as it inhibits the production of TNF-α and IL-6 in human serum. This compound also possesses antioxidant properties, which may be due to its hydroxyl group and phenoxy groups.
