The amide formed can be used as a horticultural insecticide and has been shown to have good nucleophilic substituent attack on the chlorine atom. This chain reaction is initiated by the addition of sodium salts and hydrogen fluoride to n-dimethyl formamide with halides. The polymer film that forms is quinoline derivatives.
