CAS:2-Aminomethyl-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid (2AMMPP) is an amide derivative of the β-amino acid, phenylalanine. It has been used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other disorders because it inhibits the formation of amyloid fibrils. 2AMMPP binds to the n-terminal region of a protein and prevents its aggregation into amyloid fibrils by binding to two adjacent hydrophobic residues on one side of the β-amino acid residue. Crystallographic studies have shown that 2AMMPP binds to a specific site on the protein.
