CAS 68527-74-2: Vanillin propylene glycol acetal

Vanillin propylene glycol acetal is a diphenyl ether compound that is used as an antimicrobial agent in food products. Vanillin propylene glycol acetal has been shown to exhibit significant cytotoxicity against lung fibroblasts and to be significantly cytotoxic against human lung cells. Vanillin propylene glycol acetal inhibits the growth of bacteria by acting as a competitive inhibitor of urea nitrogens. In addition, it can act as an inhibitor of fatty acids and caproic acid, which are potent inducers of phosphotungstic acid. Vanillin propylene glycol acetal also binds to cellular membranes through its lipophilic properties, which leads to the inhibition of Ca2+ influx into the cell.
