It has been shown to be an effective agent in liposomal formulations for the treatment of cancer. 3-(2-Pyridyldithio)propanoic acid is used as a monoclonal antibody (mAb) target tissue marker for human cervical carcinoma. The anti-cancer properties of this drug are due to its ability to inhibit cell proliferation by inhibiting tumor growth and angiogenesis. 3-(2-Pyridyldithio)propanoic acid also inhibits phospholipase A2, which may lead to an increase in prostaglandin E2 levels, leading to apoptosis induction.
