This compound also has insulin sensitizing effects and can reduce damage to the liver caused by fatty acids. 2-Amino-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid methyl ester is an inhibitor of fatty acid synthesis and prevents the accumulation of fat in the liver through its ability to inhibit the enzyme acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase. The chemical structures of 2-amino-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid methyl ester are similar to those of citric acid, which is used as a food additive and preservative.
