2-Amino-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid methyl ester is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be neuroprotective in animal models of stroke, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. This compound also has insulin sensitizing effects and can reduce damage to the liver caused by fatty acids. 2-Amino-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid methyl ester is an inhibitor of fatty acid synthesis and prevents the accumulation of fat in the liver through its ability to inhibit the enzyme acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase. The chemical structures of 2-amino-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid methyl ester are similar to those of citric acid, which is used as a food additive and preservative. The optical properties of this compound allow it to be used as a corrosion inhibitor for steel pipes.
