Deferoxamine
CAS:Deferoxamine is a polymerase chain inhibitor that binds to the folate receptor, a protein on the surface of cells. It is used as an antidote to poisoning by iron, arsenic, and other metals. Deferoxamine also has antioxidant properties and can be used in the treatment of iron overload diseases such as hemochromatosis. Deferoxamine-iron complexes are excreted in the urine, which may be useful for monitoring iron homeostasis.
