3-Butenylmagnesium bromide is a synthetic chemical that belongs to the class of organomagnesium compounds. It is used as a reducing agent in organic synthesis and can be used as a precursor for other organometallic compounds. 3-Butenylmagnesium bromide reacts with sodium borohydride to provide the corresponding alcohol, which can be hydrogenated to produce an ester. This compound has been shown to be effective against Caco2 cells and inhibits the growth of marine sponges. 3-Butenylmagnesium bromide may also have predictive value for biomolecular interactions, such as amide formation.
