Naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde
CAS:Naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde is a fluorescent derivative that reacts with amines to form a fluorescent product. The reaction mechanism of this compound is the formation of a covalent bond between the amine and the naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde. It has been used in several analytical methods as an indicator for amines. Naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde reacts with hydrogen bonds in proteins to form a conjugate base. This reaction results in a change in the protein's fluorescence spectrum and can be used to identify which amino acid residues are hydrophobic.
