CAS 73003-80-2: 2,2-Dibromomalonamide

Dibromo malonamide is a biocide that is used as an oxidising agent in the manufacture of certain organic solvents, such as p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It can also be used in the production of hypobromous acid and amide. Dibromo malonamide has also been found to have microbicidal properties against a wide range of bacteria. It is active against many Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutans, but not against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This agent is effective at low concentrations and it does not cause damage to the environment or human health.

Dibromomalonamide is an antimicrobial agent used in sugar mills, a compound for lipophilic fluid systems for fabric care. It is also used to produce 5-thioxo-[1,3]dithiolo[4,5-d][1,3]dithiole-2,2-dicarboxylic acid diamide.
