CAS:2,5-Dibromothiophene-3-carboxylic acid is a chemical compound that is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It is a white crystalline solid that can be recrystallized from hexane and ethyl acetate. 2,5-Dibromothiophene-3-carboxylic acid can be prepared by reacting thionyl chloride with 2,5-dibromoethanol in the presence of triethylamine. The compound can also be synthesized by refluxing bromoacetaldehyde with magnesium sulfate in tetrahydrofuran. The resulting residue was purified by vacuum distillation and spectroscopically identified as 2,5-dibromothiophene-3 carboxylic acid. This compound has acidic properties, which are attributed to the presence of the carboxyl group.
