Palladium on calcium carbonate has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent in wastewater treatment and can be used for the removal of nitrite ions from water. Palladium binds to the receptor activity of monosodium salts, which are nitrite ion-releasing agents, and prevents their release into the environment.
