CAS:Holmium is a rare earth metal that is used in the manufacture of lasers. The laser beam interacts with the tissue, causing it to heat up and destroy the bacteria. It can be used for the treatment of urinary infections in patients with chronic oral or pre-operative bacteriuria. Holmium has been shown to bind to receptor sites on cells, including 2-aminoterephthalic acid, fatty acids and epidermal growth factor.
