It has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of polyhalogenated compounds and phosphite derivatives. The compound was synthesized in high yield from commercially available starting materials using a facile two-step process. 4,5-Ethylenedithio-1,3-dithiol-2-one is an electrophilic compound that reacts with nucleophiles by donating its sulfur atom. This reaction can be monitored by cyclic voltammetry or analysed by nature (NMR) spectroscopy.
