The hydroxyl group on the ethylene glycol monovinyl ether reacts with KOH to form an ester linkage. This reaction is catalyzed by cationic polymerization. Kinetic data of this reaction mechanism are available, which can be utilized to optimize the process conditions. Ethylene glycol monovinyl ether has been shown to have effects on monoamine neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin.
