CAS:Controlled ProductHydrofluoric acid is a colorless, corrosive and toxic inorganic acid that is commonly used as a chemical reagent. It is a solution of hydrogen fluoride in water, with concentration usually between 20% and 50%. Hydrofluoric acid reacts with many materials such as glass, asbestos, plastics and metals to produce flammable gases or corrosive fumes. The detection sensitivity for hydrofluoric acid ranges from 0.5 ppm to 1.0 ppm. The model system for the reaction was zirconium oxide (ZrO2) and hydrogen fluoride (HF). A study of acute toxicities of hydrofluoric acid showed that it has low acute toxicity when ingested or inhaled but has high chronic toxicity. Hydrofluoric acid is also carcinogenic and can cause birth defects. Hydrofluoric acid can react with carbonate ions to form a weak acid complex: H-F+CO3-2=HCO3-1+. CAS:Controlled ProductApplications Hydrofluoric Acid is a common chemical reagent used as a precursor to most pharmaceutical and high volume fluoride compounds as well as in the oil refinery process. Hydrofluoric acid causes skin burns if contact with skin. Not a dangerous good if item is equal to or less than 1g/ml and there is less than 100g/ml in the package References Yamashita M. et al.; Crit. Care. Med., 29, 1575 (2001); Stahl, K. et al.: Ind.
