5-BDBD is a pharmacological agent that belongs to the class of 2-aminoethoxydiphenyl borate. It has low potency and is used in the study of p2y receptors. Studies have shown that 5-BDBD is a potent antagonist of these receptors, which are located on tubule cells in the kidney and other tissues. The drug has been shown to inhibit microglia activation and cytosolic Ca2+ levels. 5-BDBD also has inhibitory properties against toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4).
