5-Acetoxy-2-bromo-1,4-naphthoquinone (5ABNQ) is a research compound that has anticancer activity. It is synthesized from 2,5-dibromo-1,4-naphthoquinone and acetyl chloride in the presence of sodium acetate. 5ABNQ is a racemic mixture of two diastereoisomers: 5-(1′R)-acetoxy-2-(5′S)-bromo-1,4 -naphthoquionone and 5-(1′S)-acetoxy-2-(5′R)-bromo-1,4 -naphthoquionone. This compound has shown anticancer activity against breast cancer cells as well as other types of cancers.
