CAS:Tantalum chloride is an inorganic compound of tantalum and chlorine. It is synthesized by dissolving tantalum metal in a sodium hydroxide solution with hydrochloric acid, hydrogen fluoride, and sodium carbonate. Tantalum chloride can be used to produce the tantalum-oxo compounds that are useful for the manufacture of lubricants and heat transfer fluids. This chemical can be synthesized by heating tantalum metal with a caustic soda solution. Tantalum chloride is also produced as a by-product of the production of other chemicals such as titanium dioxide or ammonium perchlorate. Tantalum chloride is commonly used in analytical chemistry for gravimetric analysis, particle size distribution, and structural analysis through NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction.
