CAS:Iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate is a redox active compound that can be used in nutrient solutions. It is a strong oxidizing agent that can be reduced to iron(II) ions by the addition of hydroxyl ions, which are generated by the oxidation of nitrate to nitrite. The reaction mechanism for this process is as follows: FeNO3 + 2HO → Fe2+ + 3NO2 Iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate has an oxidation potential of +0.34 V and a reduction potential of -0.34 V, which makes it suitable for use in both aerobic and anaerobic environments. Iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate also reacts with ethylene diamine to form iron ethylenediamine complexes, which can then react with sodium citrate to form ferric citrates. This compound is not toxic to humans because it does not contain any nitrogen atoms that could cause reactions with humanFormula:Fe(NO3)3•(H2O)9Purity:(Titration) Min. 98.0%Color and Shape:Off-White PowderMolecular weight:404 g/molIron(III) nitrate nonahydrate (99.999%-Fe) PURATREM

CAS:It is used as catalyst for the synthesis of sodium amide from sodium and ammonia, and for etching of silver and silver alloys. Ferric nitrate is used in the synthesis of organically templated iron phosphates, and acts as an efficient catalyst in enamination of beta dicarbonyl compounds to beta enaminones. Ferric nitrate impregnated clays are useful as oxidizing agents. Clayfen, produced from ferric nitrate and montmorillonite, is used for the oxidation of thiols to disulfide, and alcohols to aldehydes. Ferric nitrate is useful for regio- and stereo-selective nitration of various aromatic, aliphatic, and heteroaromatic olefins. This reaction provides nitroolefins with excellent E-selectivity. With Keggin-type heteropoly acids, it selectively oxidizes various hydroxy groups. This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio.
