The reaction mechanism is based on the formation of an acid complex between Ni(V) and trifluoroacetic acid, which is then hydrolyzed to form the desired carboxylic acid. The optimum concentration of Ni(V) fluoride in this reaction has been determined to be 0.5 M at 25 °C and at a pressure of 1.0 bar.
