SA 47 is a synthetic fatty acid that induces multidrug efflux pump activity in Staphylococcus aureus. The fatty acid binds to the membrane-bound multidrug efflux pump and inhibits its function, preventing the export of drugs from the bacterial cell. As a result, SA 47 can be used as an alternative to conventional antibiotics for the treatment of staphylococcal infections. In addition, this drug has been shown to inhibit population growth in viruses and bacteria.
