The structure of pentafluoroiodobenzene has been elucidated by X-ray crystallography and found to be a planar molecule with two fluorine atoms occupying the ortho positions and three iodine atoms occupying the para positions. Pentafluoroiodobenzene is a halogen that forms ionic bonds with metals and other halogens to form ionic compounds. Pentafluoroiodobenzene is also able to form coordination complexes with metal ions such as copper or zinc.
