  • Sodium hydrogen phthalate

    CAS:
Phthalates are chemicals that can be found in a wide variety of products such as cosmetics, shampoos, and plastics. They may also be found in wastewater treatment plants. Sodium hydrogen phthalate is one type of phthalate that has been shown to have insecticidal properties. It is used as a biocide in wastewater treatment plants because it has shown to prevent the growth of insects that live on water and wastewater surfaces. The basic structure of sodium hydrogen phthalate is a four-carbon chain with two oxygen atoms attached to each end. This chemical can be identified by an analytical method called gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Phthalates have been shown to inhibit certain enzyme activities in humans and animals, for example, the activity of ryanodine receptor which regulates calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Phthalates have been shown to be toxic at high doses, but not at low doses or at levels that occur naturally in humans and animals.
