CAS:Controlled Product(-)-3,4-Dihydroxy norephedrine is a pharmaceutical drug that belongs to the group of adrenergic receptor agonists. It is used in the treatment of infectious diseases, such as osteoclast formation, and has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells. It also inhibits the enzyme fatty acid synthase and reduces levels of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in tumors. This drug is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed by esterases or glucuronidases to form (-)-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA). L-DOPA is converted into dopamine by aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) and then into norepinephrine by dopamine β-hydroxylase. The second order rate constant for this reaction may be determined using ethylene diamine.
