4-Chlorodiphenylmethane

4-Chlorodiphenylmethane is a reactive chemical that can be used as a chlorinating agent. It reacts with hypophosphorous acid and chloride to produce hypochlorous acid, which is a powerful oxidant. This reaction is also called the chlorination reaction, and it proceeds through an oxidative addition mechanism. The optimal conditions for this reaction are at pH 7, temperature of 0°C, and concentration of 1% hypophosphorous acid and 10% chloride.

Applications p-Chlorobenzylbenzene, is a building block in the synthesis of variuos pharmaceutical compounds.
