Diphenyl phosphate is used in the manufacture of phosphoric acid diesters such as triphenyl phosphate, trixylenyl phosphate, isodecyl diphenyl phosphate, cresyl diphenyl phosphate and isopropylphenyl diphenyl phosphate. It is widely used as a protective agent for hydroxyl group in organic synthesis. It finds application as an additive for paints and coatings. Diphenyl phosphate is a white crystalline solid. It is soluble in water and alcohol, but insoluble in ether. Diphenyl phosphate is an organophosphorus compound that has been shown to inhibit the activity of picolinic acid carboxylase and aminolevulinate synthase. It was also shown to have toxicological effects on cells in vitro. The toxicity of this substance may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis by altering the activity of proteins involved in the apoptotic pathway. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technique can be used as an analytical method for detecting diphenyl phosphate in biological samples. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique can be used to detect the presence of this substance in a sample as it inhibits transcription and replication by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication.
