Cetirizine is a second-generation histamine H1 receptor antagonist, which is used as an antihistamine. It is a white to off-white fine chemical with a melting point of 130°C. Cetirizine methyl ester 2HCl has been shown to be useful in the synthesis of a number of drugs, including antibiotics and antipsychotics. This compound can also be used as a reagent for organic syntheses and as a speciality chemical for research purposes. Cetirizine methyl ester 2HCl is soluble in DMSO and DMF, but insoluble in water.
