(S)-4-(1-(5-Chloro-2-(4-fluorophenoxy)benzamido)ethyl)benzoic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is used to treat pain and inflammation. It inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase 1 (COX-1), which converts arachidonic acid into inflammatory prostaglandins. The drug has been shown to be well tolerated in patients with arthritis, but can cause ulceration of the stomach and intestines. (S)-4-(1-(5-Chloro-2-(4-fluorophenoxy)benzamido)ethyl)benzoic acid also blocks growth factor activity, which may contribute to its ability to inhibit the production of inflammatory prostaglandins.
