3,7-Dimethyl 2H-furo[2,3-c]pyran-2-one is a natural product that regulates plant growth and development. It has been shown to inhibit the biosynthesis of abscisic acid (ABA) in plants by interfering with the production of ABA. 3,7-Dimethyl 2H-furo[2,3-c]pyran-2-one also inhibits the expression of genes that promote the synthesis of ethylene. The genotoxic effect of 3,7-dimethyl 2H-furo[2,3-c]pyran-2 one is not well understood but it has been shown to inhibit DNA replication in mammalian cells.
