TG 100572 is a growth factor that is being developed for the treatment of neovascular eye disorders, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and choroidal neovascularization. This drug has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by blocking the receptor for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). TG 100572 also inhibits angiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones. It does this by inhibiting basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF)-induced proliferation and migration of endothelial cells. TG 100572 has also been shown to inhibit inflammatory cells, such as monocytes and macrophages, which are involved in many diseases. The phenotype of TG 100572 is not yet known.
