Phenyl 2-Deoxy-1-thio-2-(2,2,2-trichloroethoxyformamido)-b-D-galactopyranoside is a pyrimidine compound that has been shown to be active against chronic diarrhea and bowel disease. It has been shown to work in cells and animal models of cancer. The mechanism for this activity is unknown. Phenyl 2-Deoxy-1-thio-2-(2,2,2-trichloroethoxyformamido)-b-D-galactopyranoside can induce an immune response against the bacterial antigen by acting as a vaccine adjuvant. This drug also has been shown to have biochemical abnormalities in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
