It is used as a model system to study the effector proteins of fatty acid synthesis and immune reactions. (Z)-2-(2-tert-Butoxycarbonylaminothiazol-4-yl)-2-pentenoic acid has also been found to be an inhibitor of toll-like receptor 4, which plays a role in the activation of immune cells.
