    3,5-Difluoro-4-formylphenylboronic acid (3,5-DFBP) is a polymerase inhibitor that inhibits the enzyme polymerase. The long incubation time of 3,5-DFBP makes it ideal for detection of bacteria in complex matrices such as food samples. 3,5-DFBP is used to inhibit bacterial growth and to detect the presence of bacteria. It can be used to inhibit the growth of bacteria that have resistance to antibiotics and may be used as an alternative treatment for Staphylococcus aureus infections. 3,5-DFBP has been shown to induce cell death in S. aureus cells by binding with tropomyosin on the surface of the cell membrane.
