  • 5-(Chlorosulfonyl)-2-methylbenzoic acid

    CAS:
    5-(Chlorosulfonyl)-2-methylbenzoic acid (5CSMB) is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme 2-hydroxyglutarate dehydrogenase. This compound has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the uptake of fluorine-18-labeled 2-hydroxyglutarate into the liver and biliary tract, which is a marker for β-ketothiolase activity. 5CSMB has also been shown to bind to other enzymes involved in the synthesis of glutathione, such as glutathione synthase, glutathione reductase, and glutathione peroxidase. The binding of 5CSMB inhibits the production of glutathione and leads to cell death by apoptosis. 5CSMB can be radiolabeled with fluorine-18 for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging studies.
