CAS:Schizophyllan is a neutral extracellular polysaccharide produced by the fungus Schyizophyllum commune. Schizophyllan is a β-1,3 beta glucan with β-1,6 branches and a molecular weight of around 450 kDa. It is reported that this polysaccharide can stimulate the immune system, chelate metals, act as an adjuvant in delivering drugs and aid in the production of nanofibres.
