3-Bromo-1-naphthalenol is a molecule with a yellow colour. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of naphthopyrans and ketones. 3-Bromo-1-naphthalenol can be synthesised by cyclodehydration of 1,3,5,7,9,11-hexahydrobenzofuro[3,2-c]pyrrole (1). This reaction can be achieved by heating 1 with bromine in the presence of potassium hydroxide. 3-Bromo-1-naphthalenol can also be synthesised by dehydration of 2. This reaction can be achieved by heating 2 with phosphorus pentoxide and sodium hydroxide at 180 degrees Celsius. The resulting product has a cyclic structure consisting of one ring system and one heterocyclic ring that contains two methyl ketones.
