5-(tert-Butyl)-1H-indole

5-tert-Butyl-1H-indole is a heterocyclic compound and an inhibitor of HIV protease. It has a thiocyanation reaction with the indole group, which is then sulfonylated to give the corresponding sulfonamide. The sulfonamide is hydrolyzed by water to release the parent compound. 5-tert-Butyl-1H-indole also inhibits other proteases, such as trypsin and chymotrypsin, and it can be used in peptide synthesis.
