N-Butyryl mesalazine is a prodrug that is metabolized to 5-aminosalicylic acid. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases and colon cancer. N-Butyryl mesalazine is absorbed rapidly from the gastrointestinal tract and converted into 5-aminosalicylic acid, which is responsible for the therapeutic effects of this drug. The bioanalytical method used for sample preparation depends on the type of analysis being performed and includes flow rate, metabolized, or pharmacokinetic studies. A chromatographic method was used to determine the biotransformation products that are formed by humans or animals. The acetonitrile used in this experiment was also a chromatographic reagent.
