CAS:N-Phenyl maleimide is an aromatic hydrocarbon that can be synthesized by the reaction of phenylacetic acid with phthalic anhydride. It is used as a chemical intermediate and in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. N-Phenyl maleimide has been shown to be effective in wastewater treatment, as it reacts with phosphotungstic acid to form a chelate that binds heavy metals. This compound can also be used for the formation of ternary mixtures by reacting with ethylene oxide or propylene oxide. It can also be used to synthesize other compounds, such as pyrazole, which have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. N-Phenyl maleimide is activated thermally or chemically and then reacts with anhydrous sodium, which generates sodium hydroxide.
