1-Cyclopropyl-6,7,8-trifluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid ethyl ester is a quinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by interfering with the synthesis of proteins. It binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and inhibits protein synthesis. The drug also has an antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. 1-Cyclopropyl-6,7,8-trifluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid ethyl ester is not active against Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
